description

in detail

The name chosen by these young, award-winning musicians refers to that which ‘ward off evil’—something the Middle Ages needed just as much as our own time. The rest is a matter of visceral emotion: the timbres of the fiddle, the lute, the flute as if enchanted, and that voice of trance and shivers—everything here is profoundly strange and incredibly modern.

If we had only one journey left to make, we would swap all the glitzy islands for the church of Sainte-Marie-aux-Anglais and its incredible medieval murals, which seem to be waiting for us, as if from another world. We shall go together, armed with the talent of the musicians of ApotropaïK as a talisman against ill winds, rogue waves and ill-fated loves.

Welcome to the Church of Sainte-Marie-aux-Anglais

Hidden away at the end of a verdant path in a valley in the Pays d'Auge region, the Church of Sainte-Marie-aux-Anglais is an almost magical apparition. This small 12th- and 13th-century building, watched over by the surrounding nature, is one of the region's best-kept and most moving secrets. The Church of Sainte-Marie-aux-Anglais, located in the territory of Mesnil-Mauger (municipality of Mézidon Vallée d'Auge), is a Romanesque and early Gothic building renowned for its exceptional collection of 13th- and 14th-century murals. It is listed as a Historic Monument.

Have you ever ridden in a piano taxi? Have you ever encountered, in a single day, a moody diva, two snails on their way to a funeral, a fat lady with a kite, a beautiful blue-eyed whale, a flock of raccoons, or your cousin Gaston? Embark with Fiona and Joséphine on the exciting journey of a taxi driver and let yourself be carried away into the intense and poetic world of Joseph Kosma's music, set to the poems of Jacques Prévert. Blending popular melody with harmonic refinement, Kosma composed some fifty songs based on the texts of the protest poet. These little masterpieces are performed with brilliance and passion by mezzo-soprano Fiona McGown and pianist Joséphine Ambroselli, both chamber musicians at heart and passionate about melody. Fiona's luminous voice, with its warm timbre, blends its supple and light notes with Joséphine's confident and colorful performance. Both use their multiple talents, as actresses and musicians, to highlight, with the humor and rebellious instinct that characterize them, this rich and eclectic repertoire. They obey no codes to leave room for only one thing: music!
