in detail
The name chosen by these young, award-winning musicians refers to that which ‘ward off evil’—something the Middle Ages needed just as much as our own time. The rest is a matter of visceral emotion: the timbres of the fiddle, the lute, the flute as if enchanted, and that voice of trance and shivers—everything here is profoundly strange and incredibly modern.
If we had only one journey left to make, we would swap all the glitzy islands for the church of Sainte-Marie-aux-Anglais and its incredible medieval murals, which seem to be waiting for us, as if from another world. We shall go together, armed with the talent of the musicians of ApotropaïK as a talisman against ill winds, rogue waves and ill-fated loves.
