in detail

A musician equally passionate about Baroque music and Romanticism, Ophélie Gaillard takes her cello on a journey to Argentina, where Baroque has blended with indigenous traditions. Tango is not merely ‘a sad thought set to dance’; on the contrary, it is an emotion, a rhythm, a melody, at times intoxicating with nostalgia, at others brimming with electrifying energy.

Accompanied by the finest musicians of the new generation—virtuosos of arrangement—and carried by the deep voice of Nahuel di Pierro, Ophélie Gaillard sets sail from the Church of Saint-Sauveur towards a Latin American exile.

The familiar shores of Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla are battered there by the swell of composer Alberto Ginastera, blending scholarly composition with popular melodies.

Welcome to the Church of Saint-Sauveur

A Gallo-Roman site of devotion, Beaumont-en-Auge saw the construction of a Carolingian church in the 9th century. In 1060, a priory entrusted to the Benedictines provided education for the children of the surrounding area. A renowned college offered both erudition and religious instruction; in 1776, it was transformed into the Royal Military School. Beaumont-en-Auge is credited with the birth of Laplace, scholar and mathematician; Langlois, hero of the Napoleonic Wars; and Coulaincourt, one of Napoleon's generals.

Have you ever ridden in a piano taxi? Have you ever encountered, in a single day, a moody diva, two snails on their way to a funeral, a fat lady with a kite, a beautiful blue-eyed whale, a flock of raccoons, or your cousin Gaston? Embark with Fiona and Joséphine on the exciting journey of a taxi driver and let yourself be carried away into the intense and poetic world of Joseph Kosma's music, set to the poems of Jacques Prévert. Blending popular melody with harmonic refinement, Kosma composed some fifty songs based on the texts of the protest poet. These little masterpieces are performed with brilliance and passion by mezzo-soprano Fiona McGown and pianist Joséphine Ambroselli, both chamber musicians at heart and passionate about melody. Fiona's luminous voice, with its warm timbre, blends its supple and light notes with Joséphine's confident and colorful performance. Both use their multiple talents, as actresses and musicians, to highlight, with the humor and rebellious instinct that characterize them, this rich and eclectic repertoire. They obey no codes to leave room for only one thing: music!

JUANJO MOSALINI Juanjo Mosalini is a Franco-Argentine concert musician, composer, and teacher renowned for expanding the boundaries of the bandoneon—from traditional tango to its intersections with jazz, contemporary music, and electronic experimentation. Juanjo grew up in a family deeply connected to the bandoneon: his father, Juan José Mosalini, is a major figure in the world of bandoneon and modern tango. Juanjo initially received his musical training from his father; he also studied piano, harmony, and composition—notably with Gustavo Beytelmann—which gave him both a broad and scholarly understanding of musical language. He began an international career at a very young age and quickly established himself as one of the few bandoneonists to regularly perform as a soloist in prestigious concert halls and philharmonics (Paris, Berlin, Rotterdam, the Barbican in London, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, the Salle Gaveau, etc.). His career is deeply rooted in France, where he conducts a significant portion of his artistic activity. He collaborates with various ensembles: Mosalini Teruggi Cuarteto, a duo with guitarist Vicente Bögeholz, a duo with bassist Olivier Sens, and others. Juanjo has recorded several albums, both solo and in duo/quartet settings. Notable releases include Tangueada, Entre pliegues, Chamuyo, and Delta y Mar. Juanjo is a regular guest at international festivals, performing in contemporary and chamber music venues. He also leads masterclasses (in France, Europe, the United States, and Asia) and plays a central role in bandoneon teaching in Europe.

TOMÁS BORDALEJO Winner of the 2023 Treilles Foundation Prize and the 2022 Sacem “Francis and Mica Salabert” Prize, Tomás Bordalejo is also a laureate of the Banque Populaire Foundation and, in 2019, won the Tribune of Argentine Composers (TRINAC) Prize. He arrived in Paris in 2005 to pursue higher education after three years of studying jazz at the Institute of Contemporary Music in his hometown. He attended the Gennevilliers Conservatory, then the Paris Regional Conservatory, the Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt Higher Education Center, and finally Paris IV University, where he earned a DNSPM (National Higher Diploma in Music) and a Bachelor's degree in Musicology. His encounter with composer Bernard Cavanna at the Villecroze Academy was pivotal in his career. Peter Eötvös, Pascal Dusapin, Edith Canat de Chizy, Yan Maresz, Philippe Hersant, and Philippe Manoury also encouraged him to consolidate his own distinctive musical language, characterized by an original aesthetic. His work is rooted in a genuine compositional exploration marked by a constant dialogue with the arts, architecture, urban planning, and philosophy. Each piece demonstrates a staging of sonic material and a fresh perspective on performance techniques. Tomás Bordalejo has collaborated with leading French ensembles (2e2m, Court-cicuit, l’Itinéraire, TM+) as well as with internationally renowned soloists (Gérard Caussé, Noëmi Schindler, Vincent Lhermet, Michel Portal, David Kadouch, Paul Meyer). His music has been performed in prestigious venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. 2022 was marked by the release of his first monographic album entitled Fétiches under the Paraty label, which was favorably received by critics.

LEONARDO TERUGGI Double bassist, composer, and arranger, Leonardo Teruggi is one of the most admired figures of his generation. He is a leading figure in contemporary tango, his preferred genre. He has performed with the three major figures of the genre: the great bandoneon master Juan-José Mosalini, the pianist and composer Gustavo Beytelmann, and the guitarist and composer Tomás Gubitsch (since 2013). His three personal musical projects—the Mosalini-Teruggi Quartet, the Hayakawa-Teruggi Trio in Japan, and the Tangos entre cordes project—punctuate his ongoing exploration of a modern and expressive "chamber tango." With over 140 original works in his catalogue, he is one of the most highly regarded composers and arrangers of his generation, receiving commissions from ensembles such as the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova Orchestra, the Talweg Trio, the Surel/Ségal/Gubitsch Trio, Las Malenas, and La Chimera, as well as from soloists such as Juan-José Mosalini, Juanjo Mosalini, and Simone Rubino. In 2022, he published two collections of compositions, Miniatures tango, with Lemoine publishers. His chamber music skills naturally led him to Baroque music, performing with the prestigious ensemble L’Arpeggiata under the direction of Christina Pluhar and La Chimera under Eduardo Egüez, and also to the stage and improvisational world of the Double Bass Orchestra. He has played with artists such as Philippe Jaroussky, Rolando Villazón, Furio Zanasi, Céline Scheen, Luciana Mancini, Valer Sabadus, Ophélie Gaillard, Simone Rubino, Avishai Cohen, Lucilla Galeazzi, Sandra Rumolino… He has performed as a chamber musician in more than thirty countries in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, Hamburg ElbPhilharmonie, Kölner Philharmonie, Wiener Konzerthaus, Wiener Staatsoper, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Seoul Arts Center, Arsenal de Metz, Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra Garnier, Radio France, Festival de La Roque d'Anthéron, Innsbruck, Potsdam...
