in detail
Normandy is no stranger to bassist and singer Richard Bona, who has performed several times at the Jazz sous les pommiers festival in Coutances. Born in Cameroon, trained in France, and living between New York and Miami, this multi-award-winning musician was spotted by Harry Belafonte and has worked with Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Chick Corea… Richard Bona blends American electric jazz with the swaying rhythms of Latin and Caribbean music, all rooted in the spellbinding traditions of his homeland. No one could put it better than the Los Angeles Times: “Imagine an artist with the virtuosity of Jaco Pastorius, the vocal fluidity of George Benson and the melodic sensibility of João Gilberto, all blended with African culture.”
