description

in detail

It is the duty of a festival like ours to invest in young talent, especially when the music is already there, ahead of the curve. We haven’t checked, but between the four of them, they probably aren’t even a hundred years old, yet they already have a repertoire spanning centuries.

Hailing from France, Italy and Japan, they met at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (CNSMDP), united by an enthusiastic passion for literature and the string quartet. Their programme reflects who they are: two quartets by Haydn, including the ‘Sunrise’, and Mozart’s Fifteenth, composed around the time of his son’s birth. Youth, we tell you!

Produced by ProQuartet-European Centre for Chamber Music

Welcome to Notre-Dame Church

Nestled in the verdant setting of a small, typical village in the Pays d'Auge region, the church of Notre-Dame du Mesnil-sur-Blangy is one of those discreet treasures that instantly invites reverie. With its authentic architecture and reassuring charm, it embodies the deep and preserved soul of the Normandy countryside. In the shadow of its peaceful bell tower, time seems to stand still. It is a profoundly intimate place, bathed in silence and surrounded by nature, offering visitors and music lovers an atmosphere of absolute serenity, far removed from the hustle and bustle.

The Citadelle Quartet is a young French quartet founded in 2024. Its members share a common enthusiasm for the string quartet repertoire and a shared commitment to fidelity to the score. The Citadelle Quartet sees the quartet as a laboratory, a space for experimentation and perpetual self-examination. Their work is also nourished by literature, a shared passion of the four musicians. The Citadelle Quartet studied at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP) in the classes of François Salque and Jean Sulem, and in the concert program at the Paris Regional Conservatory (CRR) in the class of Miguel Da Silva. They have also received guidance from members of the Ebène Quartet, the Belcea Quartet, the Strada Quartet, Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet), Eugene Drucker (Emerson Quartet), and Marc Coppey (Ysaÿe Quartet). He regularly participates in masterclasses at ProQuartet – European Chamber Music Centre, where he is a junior ensemble-in-residence for 2025-2027. The Citadelle Quartet participated in the Rencontres Musicales de La Baule festival, where they shared the stage with François Salque and Manuel Vioque-Judde. As part of the “Génération Chaise-Dieu” program, the Citadelle Quartet was in residence at the La Chaise-Dieu Festival in August 2024. The musicians performed at the La Roque d’Anthéron Festival in August 2025. The Citadelle Quartet received the “Cordes en Ballade” special prize, awarded by the Debussy Quartet at the 2024 FNAPEC European “Ensemble Music” Competition.
