in detail
It was in Regola, a district of Rome, in the Farnese Palace… The painter Annibale Carracci undertook the interior decoration there at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The frescoes – inspired by the amorous exploits of the Olympian gods – in the grand gallery form a sublime spectacle presented to the guests’ gaze. Music, like the other arts, was then in full ferment, with composers inventing new ways of expressing emotions through voice and instruments.
This programme imagines what the gods painted on the vaults might have heard during the first fifty years of the century, ranging from the madrigals of Luca Marenzio to the grand arias of Luigi Rossi or Stefano Landi. Like a musical gallery leading from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
Les répétitions de ce programme sont ouvertes au public le vendredi 24 juillet (lieu et horaires confirmés en juin sur pmpa.fr).
