Think of any of the best French baroque music ensembles and you can be sure that Thibaut Roussel is playing theorbo or guitars there! He comes as a soloist to La Forge d'Honfleur to give an intimate recital in a unique place. There we discover the last of the great French masters of the genre: Robert de Visée who was, between the 17th and 18th centuries, musician of the Chambre du Roy, played at the bedside of Louis XIV to whom he taught the art of making the singers sing. “choruses” – the double strings of the instrument – and to enjoy the “drone” of the bass like a palpitation of melancholy.
