description

in detail

Prelude to an Afternoon by the River… The sonic hues of Impressionism blend with the reflections and scents of the gardens. Guided by the six musicians, the water flows between the composers and is transformed into music: reflections, fluidity, the lapping of water against stones, or the rhythms of rain. “Musiques sur l’eau” by Rita Strohl, “Quintette Wolga” by Maria Bach, “what remains when the last note fades?

Perhaps the ear retains the trace of a wave, the skin that of a fine rain, and the body the sensation of having walked along the edge of something… ” Thanks to the passionate historical work carried out by the Cité des Compositrices, its founder, cellist Héloïse Luzzati—who will guide our listening—and the musicians committed to this mission, which is as much about archaeology as it is about bringing works into the world, the works of these female composers transcend the shadow or oblivion to which they were so readily consigned, taking their rightful place in the spotlight.

The impressionism of the music on the water continues with a visit to a private garden and a historic washhouse, in homage to the women washerwomen so often depicted by painters.

Welcome to Saint Lawrence Church

Welcome to Saint-Laurent Church Built starting in the 11th century, it is said, to Christianize the Vikings who had settled in the region, Saint-Laurent Church is a modest yet charming building that bears witness to the rich history of the Pays d'Auge. Its architecture reveals the layers of time: while its tall western façade features a 16th-century portal, its southern wall and narrow windows still whisper the secrets of its Romanesque origins, and its sturdy square tower, crowned with slate, has watched over the site since the Middle Ages. But Saint-Laurent Church is also a place of devotion and mystery. Inside, the statue of the patron saint recalls ancient local customs, when people would once come to stick pins into it to implore healing for skin ailments. Not far from there, the Saint-Laurent spring, which winds its way down to the Morelle Valley, adds a touch of natural magic to this preserved site, an ideal starting point for strollers and music lovers. Since 2017, the stud farm has been gradually modernized under the leadership of Guillaume and Marie Lamare to provide optimal working conditions for riders, whether they are year-round residents or simply train on the numerous riding arenas on a daily basis. The Haras de la Vallée also owes its reputation to its development and sales stable, which has produced numerous sport horses under the saddle of Guillaume Lamare. It was notably with Quartz du Sausse that he won the French Pro2 Championship title in Fontainebleau in 2012. Spanning 30 hectares, Haras de la Vallée also organizes show jumping competitions, offering a year-round schedule of events for young horses, professional riders, amateurs, clubs, and ponies. Renowned for the friendly atmosphere of its events and the quality of its two courses, Toubin & Clément, the stud farm welcomes some of the biggest names on the circuit each season.
