description

in detail

With its elegant ochre-colored château and charming green park, La Bribourdière seems to have stepped right out of a postcard from the Pays d’Auge. A postcard that comes to life, much like a pop-up book that fills a child with wonder as cut-out figures spring to life. It is precisely here, where “every beautiful story deserves to be embellished,” that the imagination of Arnaud Marzorati and Émilie Rose Bry, residents of the Lunaisien region, gently takes root, centered around the colorful pop-ups they open, unroll, and unfold to the strains of universal melodies by Mozart, Bizet, Offenbach, or… Wagner! To welcome the little ones to the opera, there are no heroic tenors or dramatic sopranos, but rather the funny jester Rigolo, the interweaving of two voices, a sprinkling of familiar instruments, and the enchanting poetry of the illustrations.

-

Hop, hop! Who’s there?
It’s the king’s jester… In the grown-ups’ world, at the opera, his name is Rigoletto, and he’s a jester who isn’t always very funny. But in the little ones’ world, in our opera, our jester is called Rigolo: he’s friends with Figaro, Carmen, and Papagena.
In this opera, Rigoletto rides on a swan, meets a sleeping princess, fights a giant who isn’t very big, and tries by any means not to displease the king, who does nothing but scold him. There are other stories, but we’re not going to reveal them all…
In this opera featuring 8 songs and 8 pop-ups, the singing voice takes center stage with famous arias, reworked for the occasion. Works by Verdi, Gounod, Mozart, Offenbach, Rossini, Bizet, and Wagner.

Rest assured, we won’t be singing as if on a grand stage. The voices are used like little magical instruments that won’t blast the ears of the little ones. In fact, our two singer-storytellers make up an entire orchestra all by themselves: from the flute to the drum, including the trumpet and the bassoon—and all of this with their magical mouths. As for the set design and stage mechanics, we’re letting Damien Schoëvaërt-Brossault’s talent shine.
Following the success of our pop-up shows L’oreille à tiroirs and La pêche aux chansons, we’re continuing this wonderful adventure centered on vocal music for little ears, for children ages 3 to 6.

Bringing Memory to Life Through Song: With his group Les Lunaisiens, Arnaud Marzorati invites audiences to (re)discover French chanson, from its origins through the 20th century. By exploring this repertoire—all too often forgotten on library shelves—this baritone, who is passionate about literature, brings the earliest songs with lyrics in history back into the spotlight. These works serve as precious testimonies to the past, the human experience, and the rich musicality unique to each era. Through this popular vocal heritage and by choosing to move beyond traditional concert formats, Les Lunaisiens have been conveying history and literature in their performances for nearly a decade. Particularly committed to issues of early exposure, education, and social connection, Les Lunaisiens are expanding their residencies and initiatives targeting young and underserved audiences, for whom Arnaud Marzorati develops and adapts specific repertoires. From recitals to pocket operas, the ensemble—with its flexible lineup—travels the country to meet audiences. They offer audiences a unique gateway to music through engagement with France’s cultural heritage. The Lunaisiens’ originality leads them to perform in major classical concert halls (Philharmonie de Paris, Bouffes du Nord...) as well as on opera stages (Opéra-Comique, Angers-Nantes Opéra...), national theaters (Dunkerque, Evry, etc.) or museums (Les Invalides, Musée d’Orsay, etc.). Les Lunaisiens are affiliated with La Barcarolle, a state-subsidized theater in the Pays de Saint-Omer region. In 2023, the company will be in residence at the Festival des Abbayes in Lorraine. Les Lunaisiens receive support from the Société Générale “C’est vous l’avenir” Foundation, the DRAC-Prefecture of the Hauts-de-France region, and the Pas-de-Calais department.

Arnaud Marzorati first studied voice at the Maîtrise du Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, under the guidance of “masters” such as James Bowman, Noël Lee, Martin Isepp, and Sena Jurinac... He subsequently earned a First Prize in voice at the Paris Conservatory – CNSMDP in Mireille Alcantara’s class. His repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music. He has performed with Les Arts Florissants, Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert Spirituel, and Le Poème Harmonique. He took part in the world premiere of Franco Donatoni’s opera *Alfred-Alfred* and Péter Eötvös’s *Le Balcon* at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. He has also performed the roles of Figaro (Opéra de Lyon), Papageno (Opéra d’Avignon), Malatesta, and Leporello (Festival d’Orange), among others. Passionate about the history of French song, he is supported by the Fondation Royaumont in his musicological research. The Cité de la Musique regularly invites him to perform in programs related to his research. Several solo recordings, released on the Alpha label, demonstrate the originality of his approach to historical song and have been praised by critics: Le Pape musulman by Pierre-Jean de Béranger, and La Bouche et l’oreille, featuring songs by Gustave Nadaud. With Les Lunaisiens, he recorded “1789” (Alpha) and Révolutions (Paraty) featuring revolutionary songs from the 17th and 19th centuries, followed by Votez pour moi! in 2017 on the Aparté label. In 2014, Arnaud Marzorati presented a series of recitals for the Musée d’Orsay on the theme of the Great War (Jaurès, Peace, and Propaganda). In 2015 and 2016, he initiated new cross-disciplinary collaborations between popular song and classical music in partnership with the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV), France Musique, and the Scène nationale de Dunkerque. For the 300th anniversary of the Opéra-Comique, he premiered *La Guerre des théâtres* in 2015. In 2017, he premiered *Atys en folie* at the Teatro Manoel in Valletta (Malta) in partnership with the CMBV. In 2019, he and Les Lunaisiens took up a residency at the Festival des Abbayes in Lorraine, and he and his ensemble became “associate artists” at La Barcarolle in Saint-Omer. Notably, he has released albums on Muso dedicated to the musical worlds of Brassens and Boris Vian, to the Napoleonic epic with Sabine Devieilhe, as well as to Molière and La Fontaine, set to music in two book-and-CD sets published by La Joie de Lire. In 2023, Merd’ v’la l’Hiver was released, featuring Stéphanie d’Oustrac on the Alpha-Outhere label.
