in detail
Before embarking on the fast-paced Musical Promenades, you need to warm up properly. We have entrusted the youth with the role of the prelude and ardor for minor and major strings, in an afternoon in Dozulé before the ball and the fireworks! Created in the eastern Dutch provinces by conductor Loes Visser around promising young talents, the "Britten" string orchestra could embody the spirit of the Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra by the British composer whose name it bears: formative curiosity and the pleasure of playing together. Their pre-festival program is in their image: the fresh inspiration of Janáček, the energetic rhythms of Bernstein's West Side Story, the joyful dances of Bizet and Offenbach...

Welcome to the Church of Dozulé
The church, whose work began in 1843, could not be completed at the time due to lack of funds. The building was completed in the 1990s during a restoration. The old parish church of Dozulé was originally the chapel of the castle of Silly. It where a small chapel now stands in the cemetery. In 1832, the inhabitants decided that this chapel, ready to fall into ruin, was too small to accommodate the entire population and that it was located too far from the village. It was decided to use all the materials from the old church.

The Britten String Orchestra was founded in 2007 by its conductor, Loes Visser. She created the orchestra to provide a platform for talented young string musicians who wish to develop their musical skills in an inspiring, high-level, and musically challenging, yet fun environment. The orchestra works closely with the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The Britten String Orchestra's goal is to perform with experienced and inspiring soloists and talented young musicians. Each year, the orchestra accompanies the winners of the Britten Competition for String Musicians aged 10 to 18. Among the notable soloists who have performed with the orchestra are Daniel Wayenberg (piano), Liza Ferschtman (violin), Maria Milstein (violin), Gavriel Lipkind (cello), Charlie Siem (violin), and Daniel Rowland (violin). The orchestra has performed three times for the Dutch royal family and is a regular guest at Dutch theaters and country estate concerts. Every year, the Britten String Orchestra goes on tour. The orchestra has toured Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Scandinavia, and, of course, the Netherlands. In 2014, it won first prize in the Summa Cum Laude Youth Music Festival competition in Vienna, Austria. At the end of each season, the Britten String Orchestra records an album. The 14th album was released last fall. Their recordings have often been well received by Dutch classical radio and the general press, and have often been acclaimed for their sound and profound musicianship, despite the young age of the orchestra's members.
