in detail
There aren't many who deserve the name "diva," like receiving a bouquet of flowers from a captivated audience. Natalie Dessay is one of them: a flamboyant soprano and actress in the spotlight of operatic stages - with Olympia, the Queen of the Night, Lucia di Lammermoor - and sparkling in classical recitals, she has succeeded in taking her audience to the shores of music hall and musical comedy. Like Viviane in the forest, Natalie meets her enchanter Merlin there: Michel Legrand, composer of jazz and music for the screen. She plays him here with Pierre Boussaguet, who was the last knight on the double bass of Legrand the enchanter... In a repertoire of songs with an instantly recognizable style, the diva always takes the spotlight so well.

The Lisieux Normandie Theatre is an Italian-style theatre, built in 1895 and identically renovated in the 1980s. The building has been listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments since 1985. It is one of those architectural gems known as Italianate, with facades, a roof, murals, and stage curtains typical of this style. Each season, it offers a multidisciplinary program inside and outside the walls, with a focus on opera. The theatre is one of the facilities managed by the Lisieux Normandy Urban Community.

find out more about the artist!
Born in 1965 in Lyon, Natalie (without "h", a discreet tribute to Natalie Wood) grew up in Bordeaux. After having dreamed of being a star dancer, she started studying German, theatre and singing, category light soprano. She makes giant strides, does in one year what others do in five and leaves the conservatory with a first prize. She is 20 years old. After a brief stay with the choirs of the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, she returns to Bordeaux and one thing is certain: she will be a soloist. In 1989, France launched the Concours des Voix nouvelles. Natalie won second prize and was invited to join the Paris Opera. A new life begins. In 1992, on the stage of the Opéra Bastille, she performed for the first time Olympia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach, directed by Roman Polanski. The following year, she was invited to the Staatsoper in Vienna: she came for a role, she was offered to join a prestigious company for one year. In 1993, on the occasion of the opening of the Lyon Opera, Natalie sings again Olympia, directed by Louis Erlo. Until 2001, she will perform this "true music-hall number" in eight different productions. In 1994, Natalie signed her first exclusive contract with EMI Classics. That year, she is ready to play the Queen of the Night in a first Magic Flute, directed by William Christie and directed by Robert Carsen: "Two airs, two acrobatic numbers". The following year, she lent her voice to Lakmé, the delightful priestess of Leo Delibes' comic opera before pushing the door of the impressive Scala in Milan to play Olympia again,
